On-Page SEO Tutorial
In this article I will tell you in detail about how to optimize your web page/site perfectly through on-page SEO techniques.
On-Page SEO VS Off-Page SEO
On-page SEO refers to the optimization of your HTML source code and content to rank higher in search engines for your targeted keywords.
Off-page SEO refers to increasing positive external signals pointing to your site such as backlinks.
Off-page SEO, on the other hand, takes longer. You need to go out and “build” links on other websites that you don’t own, and the process is more complex and time consuming.
There are a LOT of websites out there with huge backlink profiles that don’t get a lot of search traffic. The reason? Their on-site SEO sucks. Just a few tweaks to your content and HTML source code can drastically increase their rankings and traffic.
Let’s go through what a perfectly optimized SEO article looks like.

- Page speed.
Start with Search Intent
Before starting you search optimization, always keep in mind that we not not fighting a battle for our own. we are here writing a helpful material for the users. Google always care for their searchers instead of writers. Google always pick helpful and search intended material and shows it on the top for their searchers/users in Google search result.
This first step is very important for writer to make sure that he is writing for users not for his own. Always try to understand that what you keywords have search intent behind it.
Remember, you material and keywords should be perfectly matched and having the same sense that a user can easily understand it.
Keeping in your article theme, just think what searchers are looking for in your article. Are they looking for just information, are they going to but from you.
Just keep in mind that there are hundreds of other pages that have same sense of material that you are going to write for the users. So there are already top ranked pages on internet.
Make You Title tag having keywords and make it perfect and interesting
In on-page HTML tags, Title tag is very strong and important for SEO. Title tags tells search engine that what your page is about. Google shows your title tag in result page.
Always insert useful title tag that give complete sense of understanding about the content written in your artitle.
- Keyword in title tag: If you want to rank for a keyword, the first and most important step is to have the keyword in the title tag.
- Title tag character limit: Make your title tag too long, and it will be cut off by Google with ellipses. Today, there isn’t a total character limit. It’s totally user and device dependant. Ideally though, your title tag should be 60 to 70 characters in length.
- Creating your title: Just because having the keyword in your title is important, doesn’t mean you should create title tags with JUST your keyword. You want to make it interesting so that people want to click through to your page rather than the others.
Enter helpful text in your meta description
As per new Google search engine police, google does not evaluate your meta description for SEO ranking.
Google ignore meta description but…
if you have entered useful and understandable text in meta description then google shows it on result page that can help the searchers to understand what has been written in the article.
if you have not written meta description in your html tags, then google takes some text from the first paragraphs and shows it on the result page.
As we know that we have only few words (normally two lines) for meta description that google shows in search result, so always try to describe complete sense about your article as well as try to convince the users to visit your page. but remember you have only two lines to describe all this in meta description.
Keep URL’s short and simple
lengthy URL is not a big issue to Google SEO ranking but always try to input short and simply but clear URL, its s good habit.
Some people just copy their title tag and paste it into URL tag, its not bad but it is not a good practise.
For a smart URL try to use your keywords that give complete sense about your article.
How smart and simple URL can play a role in your site betterment?
Let’s take an example, if a user want to visit cricket page on BBC website, he will visit www.bbc.com then will find sport section and then will find Cricket link , its time consuming and will take much time for a single page.
But a excellent and wise user will remember the cricket URL of BBC website, he will direct type www.bbc.com/sport/cricket and the page will be opened.
This is the main reason why we (as writer) should use short, smart, simple but perfect URL for a post.
Use header tags to tell search engines what your subtopics are
Like tile tag, header tags also play a role in page ranking.
Your title of the page should be wrapped into you heading (normally H1). Normally we don’t think about header tags but google also pick order of your heading in page. In some search results google also shows your main headings in the website.
I personally use H1 for main heading and H2 for subheading, I rarely use others (H3, H4, H5, H6).
Wikipedia the the best examples that uses only H1 and H2 the most but in very rare case it uses H3.
Some people use their keywords in header tags, its was good in past but now its a bad experience for your SEO ranking. Instead of using your keywords always try to put something good because you are writing with search intent.
Few things to note:
- There should only be one H1 tag on a page.
- Don’t skip header tags. Don’t use H1 and then H4’s throughout the page. Go in order of importance/significance.
- It’s not essential to use multiple header tags in a page, but don’t forget the H1.
- No keyword and extra text filling for h2 and h3 tags – keep it simple
Always insert image alt tags
Using images alt tags give another line to google about what you have in your content of the post. Most of the people forget to insert alt tags for their image. It does not take your ranking down but inserting alt tags to your images triggers the google to quickly understand what your content is about.
I heavily use and recommend LSI Keywords by using Images but remember…
In first image normally featured image i use my main keywords or some time heading tags. The rest of the images tags will be according to the nature of the images.
Use your main keywords early on in your article
I always use my main keywords in first and second paragraph. Its the best ways to use you Main keywords in featured image tags.
If you ever visited wikipedia, you would be known that it always start with its main keywords normally the H1 heading and title tags of the page and in bolded form.
Don’t be stubborn to must insert main keywords in your first paragraph but as early as possible. Expert SEO operators and content writers use main keywords in their first paragraph. Extraordinary start the blog post with main keyword.
Make your content long and thorough
Lengthy contents have better ranking.
SuperIQ analyzed 20 thousands keywords and found that top 10 keywords have average 2000 words.
Top ranked keyword has more than 2400 words.
Length of the content depends upon the nature and type of keyword. For some topic it does not depend upon so many words
Deep site linking
Another SEO ranking tool is Inserting LINKING to your site. Its very bad experience that all of your links are directed to you only homepage. For the better experience insert you links thought out your website (internal pages) instead of one page.
Internal Linking also increase Likes, shares and obviously more traffic. Normally SEO content writers miss this tool and they have only empty content. It’s no a big issue if you have not inserted any internal link but its has a positive impact if you have inserted different links of your site.

Deep linking increases ranking and chances to visit other pages of your site.
Link flow through internal links
whenever is possible, interlink you different pages to your content which is the fastest and easiest way to improve SEO ranking.
Whenever you write new article, don’t forget your old posts of your site. Make your habit to interlink old pages properly to new article.
- Internal links improve link flow to other/old contents of your site.
- The anchor text of links tells Google to understand the context of a webpage and to rank better.
- Internal links tell Google Bots crawl and access different parts of your site.
- Internal links also improve user experience by providing them with more information. That in turn increases your user metrics such as page views.
Use a lot of sources and external links
While writing a new content, one of my priority is to construct links as many as you can. It increases credibility and trustworthy of your material.
Linking to others sites normally covers a complete story and remove misunderstandings. For the visitors, linking gives them easily access to visit that one and to quickly understand the meaning of the content.
while writing an article, you can not cover all the meaning in detail, thats why linking to other site can explain everything and a user can easily jump to another platform to understand the topic and its theme.
Linking to others site will not decrease the raking of your site but it will increase the trustworthy and credibility of the article.
Remember, sharing the knowledge will not decrease your stuff.
Put In-page links for easy navigation
I always give an example of wikipedia because it covers all the content that I have told you above.
I always talked about it, because it allows the users to quickly jump to the sub-content to review it rapidly.
In-Page links normally inserted when you are writing a very long article which is very difficult for the user to read. Inpage links help the user to jump to exact the content for which you have clicked.
When you are writing an article which is less than 1500 words, then its better not to insert inpage link but if you are writing over 2500 words, then it’s a good tool to add in your content.
Always use Natural writing
Remember, you are writing for reader not for your ranking. Your first priority is to provide original data to the reader. you second priority might be ranking.
Don’t use too much force on linking, keywords and other. Use more power on originality of the data that you are proving to your viewers.
Just check it that how your article will be read by the reader. If you think that keyword density is higher than other material, then use LSI to maintain the balance. If you think that keywords density is less than other material than add some more to make it balanced.
Focusing on higher density sometime disappoint the user instead of helping them. Always use natural writing to satisfy the user, because you are writing for them not for Google.
At the end, higher page loading time may decrease your views even a second delay in loading can affect your ranking.
You can check page speed by Google PageSpeed.
Google recently reported that while Loading a page on a mobile device can take from 1 second to five second.
If you want to maintain/decrease load time then switch to High End Hosting Server, but if you don’t want to spend much rupees in it then use Cloudflare (free) combined with a caching plugin. Within ten minutes you can decrease load time.
On-Page optimization is very important and very easy. Any one can optimize the website easily even they are not familiar with SEO tool.
We know that writing a high quality article and with huge backlinks play a vital role in high SEO ranking but an excellent SEO ranked site will also be optimized by keywords.
